Ypsilanti, MI, USA: August 2013
I've arrived safely in Ypsilanti, Michigan! Whew, crossing the border can be such a pain. I was really pleased to meet my hostess' rat companion, Wally - but he was not so interested in meeting me!I tried to make a good first impression with Wally - I was hoping we could be friends.
Then I tried a more passive approach.
But Wally just wasn't interested.
Had a lovely time picking Raspberries with my hostess Ms. Wendy and her friend L.J.!
On my last day in Ypsilanti Ms. Wendy gave me the nickel tour... starting in Frog Island Park!
This is the bridge from Frog Island Park to Riverside Park - the overpass is Cross Street.
Hmm, are these the frogs the park is named for?
The pavilion in the background is part of Riverside Park.
That water tower is a ubiquitous landmark in Ypsilanti; it sits on the west side of the campus of Eastern Michigan University.
Eastern Michigan Univ. (EMU) doesn't have the same repurtation as its "big" neighbor in Ann Arbor, but is a fine institution nonetheless! It was originally a Normal School - teacher training.
It was a warm sunny day in Michigan, so Ms. Wendy kindly made me a sun-hat so I wouldn't burn. Lovely & shady right in the raspberry bushes, of course!
Sometimes you really have to reach in to get the good ones!
Well I agree with the sign! Ms. Wendy, her friend L.J. and his penguin Flip with our haul of raspberries in the re-purposed gallon milk jugs.
We ended up with 3 quarts of lovely fresh berries, including a few golden raspberries!
