Satellite Beach, FL, USA: June 2013
I had a GREAT day seeing the sites in Brevard County! I have posted a few pictures for you to see....
I'm standing in the bushes trying to decide which direction I will be headed in next? Hmmm....
Here is the tug boat guiding the huge cruise ship through the port. The cruise ships leave on Sunday at 4:00. As they pull out they toot their horns.
Typically there is a group of kids in the port and they LOVE the tooting. The Disney horns play "When You Wish Upon A Star"
A monument to our local hero, Kelly Slater. He is a surf Champ! We have ANY surfing champions that come from our area and still live here!
Mai Tiki's are EVERYWHERE!! Mai Tiki is VERY famous and has a HUGE museum full of wonderful art and sculptures! A must see if you come to this area.
Classic Florida flower, Hibiscus. My Host's daughters birthday cake! Marble cheesecake.
National Kidney Foundation-Cocoa Beach, Fl. 2013
National Kidney Foundation-Footprints in the Sand Beach Walk 2013
Another section of the causeway!!
We started our trip opff at the Astronaut Hall of Fame. If you ever get to come to Florida, this is a MUST. The kids/teens will LOVE the intense simulators (video games), used by the astronauts for training! There is a game for landing the space shuttle which is NOT as easy as it appears even for the most experienced gamer! Many items are hands on!
Endeavour Space Shuttle
An abandon orange tree grove with trees growing wild oranges. Don't eat them if you see them bc they will be SOUR!! These are all over the state.
Close to Port Canaveral
Look in the distant, on the horizon, on the left, that is Cocoa Beach!! That is where the Cocoa Bch Pier and Ron Jon's is located. You will see that later in my pictures.
On the Bennett Causeway headed toward Port Canaveral. Whenever my host family wants to go to the mainland, they have to go over a causeway. They live on a barrier island. It is so cool and beautiful to see dolphins or schools of fish from the top of the causeway any time you travel over one!!
Entering Port Canaveral. It is the home of Disney Cruise Line and Carnival Cruises. Their port is a quaint little port with 5 restaurants and a few shops. The locals have been fighting for years to keep the bigger businesses out so it will remain local friendly.
I'm standing in the bushes trying to decide which direction I will be headed in next? Hmmm....
A genuine shrimping boat. There are only a few true shrimpers left in this area. They work VERY hard to provide our area with fresh shrimp and seafood for our industry.
I'm outside the Baja Restaurant where we had a nice fish sandwich!
Just being silly!!
This fellow Ibis was stealing shrimp out of the back of an unguarded truck. My host and her hubby got a real laugh out of it. He had company as you will see in the following pictures. Water birds in Florida are not afraid to steal your bait or even your catch!
Here are his friends!!
A better look at his friends!

Even closer look!!
A trip to Brevard County would not be complete w/o a trip[ to Ron Jon's Surf Shop!
My host's hubby teaching me how to balance on a surf board, just in case I wanted to go surfing.
A monument to our local hero, Kelly Slater. He is a surf Champ! We have MANY surfing champions that come from our area and still live here!
Here is a close up of the dedication plaque at the foot of the monument.

We got to see a bona fide mermaid!! Isn't she beautiful?!
Full frontal view of Ron Jon's.
This is where the kidney foundation walk was and now I am standing on the pier!!
Here is a little view of Hotel Row in Cocoa Beach. We are only 15 minutes away from my host's home.
I'm leaning on the railing going up to the deck for a drink and to listen to the band for awhile. The pier jetty's out over the ocean. It is a nice place to relax.
My host LOVES A1A
My host tells me this beauty was in the Port a few weeks ago. She was able to actually get on the ship and tour it! My host LOVES these old pirate ships and even builds them as a hobby. This ship IS sea worthy and sailed from Spain. Ship and crew were heading around the world.
Here she is with her mast at full sail.
My host lives right down the street from Patrick Air Force Base. These great cargo planes fly over daily practicing maneuvers.
Another section of Patrick Air Force Base. We LOVE having our military men and women right here.
The clouds look for ominous yet cool!
We had to wrap things up as this storm started to roll in. One thing about living on the beach is you definitely get off the beach when this starts to happen!!
As it was pouring down rain outside, I decided to visit my host's girls. The were VERY excited to meet me!! Mila on my left, Mischa (w/the blaze) on the right and Abbey (she is so black she just blends in) all were VERY happy I came to visit!
Marley tried to take my shoes off. He said he wanted me to be at home! Sophie was checking my eye out.
Then his Mom told him to leave my shoes on and he went away pouting. Poor Marley....Even Sophie tried to get Marley to stay...
