Grants and Fundraisers for Rescues:

Here is a list of grants and fundraisers that can help rat rescues.  As far as we can tell, grants that we have listed here do not restrict the species rescued to dogs and cats. If you find differently, please contact us and let us know so we can remove them.

During the winter holidays, the stores allow groups to come in and gift-wrap in exchange for being able to collect donations. The store provides everything to wrap, you provide the manpower. Rules vary from store-to-store, so please contact your store directly (most have 6 hour shifts and require 2 people at the table at all times).  Tip: you may want to avoid stores in college or business areas as you are looking for places where people are buying gifts, especially closer to Christmas- when the last thing someone wants to do is go home and wrap! Sign-ups for holiday gift-wrapping may start as early as July of each year, though contracts go out during September (there may still be available spots or wait lists after September).

Ralph and Virginia Mullin Foundation
The Ralph and Virginia Mullin Foundation makes small grants to unincorporated entities to get incorporated and to obtain 501(c)(3) status, and if an organization receives one of these grants, it must use the money to pay those related costs.

Aviva Community Fund
Every fall, the Aviva Community Fund awards funds to ideas that impact their communities in a positive way.

Carefresh
Carefresh holds promotions for rescues and individuals. Nominated rescues will be chosen every 2 months to receive bedding and coupons.

MyGiving Circle
​MyGiving Circle
 gives grants out to the top voted charities, in addition to donations earned from supporters.
​
​Oxbow
Oxbow awards monetary funding through the Oxbow Rescue Grant program to organizations in the US and Canada seeking medical support, feeding needs, educational programs, and building renovations. Applications must be postmarked between June 1st and August 31st.
In addition to the programs available to rescue organizations, Oxbow proudly supplies them with product support, literature, community outreach, and professional advice on nutrition.

​Cuddle Clones donate directly to individual animal shelters every month.

Dollar Days
Dollar Days holds monthly giveaways on Facebook, many can benefit a rescue.

Tractor Supply Co.
Tractor Supply Co. holds a "Rescue Your Rescue" picture contest on Facebook every August. Rescues and supporters can enter a picture to nominate their favorite rescue for a chance to win one of 10 cash prizes.

Grants are awarded every month of the year through the PIP fund. Recipients are chosen in January and June.

Animal Place
Animal Place's Food For Thought Campaign grants are awarded to the first 100 applicants from the US or Canada who choose to only host vegetarian or vegan events.

The Animal Rescue Site
The Animal Rescue Site hosts several shelter challenges throughout a year in which US 501(c)(3) approved (or the equivalent outside the US) rescues or animal welfare organizations can participate. They also have other contests and grants available at different times.

#RememberMeThursday #RememberTheRescue Contest
The #RememberTheRescue Challenge is a social media photo contest through the Helen Woodward Foundation where rescue pet parents tweet and post pics of their beloved adopted pets. Participants then nominate their favorite pet adoption organization or facility (registered charity in the US or Canada) to win one of three awesome prizes!​ Takes place every September.​

Sumerlee Foundation
Grants are awarded by the Sumerlee Foundation to alleviate fear, pain, and suffering of animals and to promote animal protection and the prevention of cruelty to animals


US 501(c)(3):

American Humane Association
Rescues and shelters can qualify for grants from the American Humane Association for such things as capital grants and building improvement, animal cruelty cases, or disaster.
​Special Grants have been set up due to COVID-19.

ASPCA
ASPCA grants money for such things as spay/neuter, animal cruelty cases, and emergency disaster. Grants are typically from $500- $10,000. Please note:  Anti-Cruelty grants are generally restricted to incidents involving cats, dogs, or farm animals.

Bernice Barbour Foundation
The Bernice Barbour Foundation provides funding to 501 (c)(3) organizations that protect, preserve, and nurture companion animals, large animals, native wildlife, and marine species in the United States. Priority is given to programs that focus on hands-on care, animal health and welfare, or veterinary medical research.

Binky Foundation
Grants of up to $2500 are awarded by the Binky Foundation as seed grants to help organizations in their early stages of a specific program or to help purchase new equipment.

Bissell Pet Foundation
In addition to money awarded for spay/neuter, adoption, and foster care, the Bissell Pet Foundation also gives grant money out for emergency relief in such instances as hoarding situations (use their contact form for an emergency situation). They also make in-kind donations of their products to rescue groups. Check their Facebook page for the 12 Days of Christmas in December, where individuals have a chance to win one of their cleaning products each day for 12 days while also choosing a shelter for a monetary donation.

Daily Kibble
Grants are given out throughout the year from Daily Kibble.

Elinor Patterson Baker
Elinor Patterson Baker Trust offers grants four times a year and is looking for innovative, new programs, especially those that feature outreach and engagement. Partnerships with other groups are also a plus. For information contact your local HSUS state director by e-mailing [yourstate]@hsus.org.

​Exotic Nutrition donates supplies and money to rescues. 

GivingTuesday
In celebration of Giving Tuesday (the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday),  #MyGivingStory is an annual campaign in November where people can share their own story for the chance to win up to $10,000 for your favorite cause.

Gus Hawthorne Foundation
Money is available to non-profit organizations that rescue, rehabilitate, house and adopt-out domestic animals or release wildlife from the Gus Hawthorne Foundation.

Kenneth Scott Charitable Trust
The Kenneth Scott Charitable Trust is a private foundation focused on preventing cruelty to animals and promoting the humane treatment of animals, particularly companion animals such as dogs and cats, and other species of animals commonly kept as household pets. Proposal deadlines are March 15 or September 15 for Ohio proposals, and June 15 or December 15 for Great Lakes region (IL, IN, MI, WI, Western PA, Upstate NY, and Northeastern MN) or National proposals.

Kirkpatrick Foundation
Grants are given for animal welfare by the Kirkpatrick Foundation. Priority is given to organizations serving the Oklahoma City, OK metropolitan area.

Mason Foundation
The Mason Foundation will award up to $4000 to help pay for assessments and schematic architectural drawings for new buildings or remodeling projects.

National Anti-Vivisection Society
NAVS provides grants for emergency relief.

Network for Good
Grant and resources are provided by Network for Good. The 12 Days of Giveaways happens in December.

PetFinder Foundation
The PetFinder Foundation has several different grants available to animal rescues under Quality of Life, Disaster and Emergency Response, and Sponsor a Pet. 

Petco Foundation
The Petco Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation (#33-0845930) that supports other IRS (Internal Revenue Service) designated non-profit pet related groups as well as municipal/governmental agencies and educational institutions involved in animal causes. The Holiday Wishes contest is held every September when supporters submit a rescue story to try to win a grant for their favorite rescue.

Petsmart Charities
Petsmart donates money and supplies to registered charities. They help in 3 areas: adoptions, spay/neuter, and emergency relief.

Regina B. Frankenberg Foundation
Grants are made by the Regina B. Frankenberg Foundation to help reduce the homelessness, mistreatment and euthanasia of companion animals by supporting adoption, training, spay/neuter and other programs by strengthening the capacity and infrastructure of organizations doing this work in and around New York City, NY.

Rescue Me
Register with Rescue Me and "like" them on Facebook to receive grants up to $1000.

Thelma Doelger Trust for Animals
If you are a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the care and maintenance of or welfare of animals and are located in California (especially northern California and the San Francisco Bay area), you are eligible for a grant from theThelma Doelger Trust for Animals
